I have to say, this is one of my favorites now. I don’t play video games and I never was or will be any good at them, but I still like this song because I believe that lots of things were better before. The vocals and harmonies are done well, it has a good beat and no swearing. Well done!!

The Lore

This one started out as an attempt to recreate the success of Forever Gamer. That was the plan, and that was what I set out to do. So I decided to take one of my old unreleased songs from my tracker days, Dreams of a Destiny, that I kinda liked parts of – and got to work. Ended up using barely any of it, except the voice sample saying ‘dream’ and a little synth part in the intro. As I got to writing lyrics and getting a feel for what I wanted to do, the rest basically wrote itself. Recorded the lyrics in my usual janky matter in Adobe Audition and tried to tie it alltogether. As time has gone by, this one still stands the test of time for me. Classic.

How it was made

It was made in FLStudio 8 with these VST instruments:

Sound effects are from The Legend of Zelda – Ocarina of Time on the N64 ofcourse. Best game of all time? Navi never bothered me. I dont get the memes. HEY LISTEN!

The song it is based on

I made “Dreams of a Destiny” in the beginning of our lords year of 2000. I have vague memories that this song is also a remix of something, but I cant for the life of me remember what. Hoping that will be revealed in the comments or something at one point. I’d like to have it logged on here. Anyway, it has never been released – and I cant remember why exactly – but I suspect it is because of my extremely cringe teenage tryhard vocals on it. But “Back in Time” is based on it. And here it is.

It all began back in ’85.
Wasting hours waiting on my 1541 Drive
Playing Syndicate on my Commodore 64.
Everything was better before.

The years went by, and in ’89.
I got me an Amiga from the 500-line.
8-bit tracker fan
and it all began – with Turrican.
Octalyzer made me a – music man!

Here we go again. The time has come for more.
Once again we ramble on about that everything was better before.
Playing Monty on my Commodore. When the games were in their prime.
Let me take you back in time.

In ’94 came the PSOne.
Once again an epic journey in my time begun.
Gaming everyday in the atmosphere, of Metal Gear.
And Silent Hill was absolute … fear!

The next year came the N64.
They just dont make’em like those on it anymore.
Legendary games out of Tokyo, like Mario.
And every other hero should shrink … compared to Link.

Here we go again. The time has come for more.
Once again we ramble on about that everything was better before.
