Eclipse

I don’t care what anybody says. This one goes hard. Loving tribute to Apoptygma Berzerk, and a cover of their “Eclipse”.

Well, I’m just now looking through your music, and this is the first one I listened to on Spotify (besides Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) and I’m already loving it, wonder what other hidden gems I’ll find from you!

Who would’ve thought that a song about someone getting nuked would sound so calm. It’s almost creepy in a way but at the same time, so soothing and pleasing to listen to.

Nice. These guys you like must be pretty awesome. I’ve listened to a lot of your music, and I was always wondering what your inspiration. Now I know. As for this song… I don’t know why…but it makes me sad. It’s great and all, but I feel sad. It’s as if a montage of depressing things in my life flash through my mind as I listen to it. But I still love it. Definite 10/10. Whats odd, is despite the sadness, I want to keep listening to it….Man you’re good.

The Lore

I only cover or remix what I love, and Apoptygma Berzerk is definitely on that list. I have maybe 10 tracks from them I would like to do something with. If they don’t kill me for doing it. I remember when I released this on YouTube back in 2008 and the tubes had private messaging, I got a note from the official channel of Apop telling me “APOP LOVES YOU”. Ofcourse that is lost to time now that Google has killed that feature, but it was pretty huge for my young self back then. Ah memories.

How it was made

It was made in FLStudio 7 with these VST instruments:

Oh yeah I was feeling it when I made this one. Got a real good thumping beat and bassline going, busy arpeggios and a massive synth pad that just worked. Had tons of fun recording vocals and found out my voice is pretty similar to the singer in Apoptygma, so that also worked. I do not remember why I did alternate verses with effects on my voice, but I see from my project files that I used Antares AVOX Throat and Duo for that. Would be better if I didn’t, but I thought it was cool. Fuck it.

Anyway, my computer could not handle this at all and crashed several times near the end. Remember I just had to finish the song not to go mental, everything was so slow. So the mastering is kinda lacking on this one. Opening this project today however, and my computer barely cares. So might be time to revisit this one.  I still dig it to this day. One of my favorites of my own stuff.

The Lyrics

For a moment.

For a moment.

For a moment.

‘Cause today we’ll catch a glimpse of eternity.
As the world stands perfectly still – just for a moment.
For the very first time, and it is meant to be.
Yeah, we’ll forget about ourselves – and share the moment.

But today we’ll catch a glimpse of eternity.
As the world stands still – for a moment.
And I guess we’ll all be making history.
As we all join hands – just to watch the sky.

For the very first time, and it is meant to be.
Yeah, we’ll forget about ourselves – and share the moment.
And I guess we’ll all be making history.
As we all join hands – just to watch the sky.

For a moment.

The song it is based on

Apoptygma Berzerk is a norwegian industrial techno- rock synthpop band that I have been a die hard fan of since the 90’s. They make the music I wanted to make. And I should really do more covers of them. The track I cover here is Eclipse from their album Welcome to Earth. Check them out.
