The Lore

Back in 1997 when I had my norwegian christian confirmation, I got a Pentium 150mhz desktop computer with a 3DFX Voodoo 2 card installed. And with it, pirated copies of among others The Curse of Monkey Island by LucasArts. I am not joking when I say this game is a treasure to me. The music, the humor, the riddles, the atmosphere. Best point’n’click ever made. A remix of the theme was inevitable.

How it was made

It was made in FLStudio 6 with these VST instruments:

I remember finding a treasure trove of voice samples not used in the games, some kind of blooper reel- but I could not for the life of me find it again as of writing this page. Then Kraken over on our Discord server stepped up and did some serious investigatory work to find out where the samples came from. Turns out it was part of a elaborate april fools joke back in 2002, done by LucasArts fansite mixnmojo.com. It involved the original voice actor Dominic Armato coming out to record fake new voice lines for Monkey Island 5. The joke was that MI5 was in production, which it wasn’t. (it did happened seven years later tho)

Other than that this track is clearly made out of three different parts with three different styles. I guess I was just experimenting and trying things out and then decided we had a track worth releasing once I was done. Really should give this theme another go. It’s a classic for sure.

I do not remember much of producing this song anymore. I really churned them out back then. But I do remember finding a treasure trove of voice samples not used in the games, some kind of blooper reel. I have searched long and hard for it to be able to link to it on this page, but the site might not exist anymore. When I ask ChatGPT to source it for me, it tells me to isolate it from this very remix. Very helpful. Please let me know if you stumble across them. Anyway, that is what I did. I chopped up different voice samples and sound effects and sprinkled all over the track.

The voice samples are ofcourse done by Dominic Armato, which is the voice actor for Guybrush Threepwood in The Curse of Monkey Island.
