The Lore

I love Star Trek. My childhood. TNG on a saturday morning? Come on. Anyway, this one was a while in the making. I have a project all the way back in 2013 called “Star Trek” and then another version a few years later called “A Final Frontier” and then finally this one that I finished from 2019. So I guess the melody has stuck with me for a good while. Actually I’ll post the previous attempt below if you are interested.

How it was made

It was made in FLStudio 20 Producer Edition with these VST instruments:

So you heard the first attempt above. I just could not make this good. I knew it had something, but that something refused to happen. But eventually I sat down and powered through. I got the main melody popping and really ripping its way front and center. Then I decided to take the “captain on deck” flute from The Next Generation and use it as a synth, and then make a new melody with it. That became the middle part. Then I was very pleased with myself once I came up with using the intro to the TNG-theme melody as a transition into the last section of the song.

All in all a fun project, but a bit of a slog to finish to be honest. Rewarded myself by making a fun nostalgic music video for it. The music video always legitimizes a project for me for some reason. I know it will get no views on YouTube, but I literally do not care. I think it is fun. Ofcourse I sampled the voice lines from the new movies.

What it was based on

The title of the original track is actually Enterprising Young Men and is from the soundtrack to Star Trek (2009) that rebooted the franchise. I actually love the new movies. One of the few reboot attempts that actually worked. (dont get me started on Star Wars. Jesus fucking christ). Soundtrack was composed by Michael Giacchino.
