The Lore

Turrican has been with me most of my life. For those who don’t know, it was a game-series on the Commodore Amiga with, in my opinion, an iconic soundtrack produced by Chris Huelsbeck. Pretty sure the soundtrack to this game is the reason I started to dabble in trackers and the scene and got started in music. Made a long time ago by now, and it does not do the original material justice. But here it is nevertheless.

How it was made

It was made in FLStudio 5 with these VST instruments:

It’s been a while, but I am pretty sure I made the vocals in this, or rather the speech in the middle of the song, with the built-in speech generator engine in FLStudio set to female, and adding some post-processing FX. Other than that it is pretty basic early FLStudio work. I even used the pretty primitive Sytrus plug-in that is included with the DAW for the basslines. Good nostalgic fun though.

This man needs no introduction really. He made a good chunk of the music that made the Amiga epic. But it is Freedom (Turrican 2) by Chris Huelsbeck.
