As is pretty much always the case with me and my producing, this one started out as something completely different, before it derailed and became what you have now. I set out to remix one of my favorite tracker songs, which is Signia by Jogeir Liljedahl. But as I started to disect the inner workings of that song I realised that the melody Jogeir used in Signia is a cover of the theme from The Snowman, an animated show from the 80s that used to run during christmas over here. I had forgotten about that one. And nobody loves finding old gems more than me. All of a sudden I had another childhood memory to work with – and well-known lyrics as well. Double whammy. Off I went on my merry way to make a my first very own little christmas song.

It was made in FLStudio 20 Producer Edition with these VST instruments:

I decided early on that I wanted a slow EDM song with a nice comfortable rythm in the same BPM as the original. So I spent quite a bit of time on the rythm, bass and real clear trance arpeggios to get it just right. Nothing overwhelming, even my mom can listen to this.  At first I took the original vocals by Declan Galbraith and ripped them off the soundtrack, cleaned it up and tried to mix it in as well as I could. It turned out allright, and I think I actually released it like that. But after a few listens I concluded that the vocals just werent working for me. So I reached out to Anastasia, and we recorded brand new vocals for it. She nailed it. Now it’s pretty awesome.

Anastasia Skynova is in fact not her real name. Not even remotely close. We just came up with that because it looks cool on the track title. There is a reason behind that ofcourse. She wants to be anonymous on our projects because she actually works in the business professionally for an actual living. Doing writing and vocals for several major labels, and she has been featured in several ads on tv. So no name. No pictures. No google search. Just her voice on some of our projects because it’s fun.

Walking in the Air was composed by Howard Blake for the 1982 animated film The Snowman. Originally sung by choir-boy Peter Auty, then famously covered by Aled Jones and by Declan Galbraith, the latter being my personal favorite. The song accompanies a magical flying sequence, which I used in my own music video as well.
